Type of application

The taxAuditor software is a downloadable desktop application that can only be installed on desktop and laptop computers that use the Windows operating system. It cannot be installed on Mac computers, i-pads, tablets or phones.

The continued use of the software does not rely on an internet connection. It works completely offline, and any data files created are saved on the user's computer and is accessible offline.

Short-cut access

After you install the system on your computer, you should set up a short-cut menu to your desktop or taskbar, so that you can easily access the software. Otherwise you can access the software from the start menu, but this is a longer route.

File management

Backup

To create backups, make a copy of the database file in your windows explorer.

This backup process is done manually by the user, and independently of the taxAuditor software.

Tooltips

In certain sections of the software, you will see buttons with a question mark. Clicking on these will show you some tips regarding the tax module you are currently working with. They are important as they help you to understand which choices may be appropriate to choose from. This also saves you time, as you do not have to refer back to a detailed guide on what this means.

However, the tooltips are just general guidance. Users should use this advice in line with tax interpretation, client circumstances, and any tax updates. Where possible, links to additional sources of ATO information is provided.

Printing

At the bottom of most screens, or on the top File/Print menus you will see the ability to print some sort of report.

Your printouts will be saved to a location of your choices, and are in PDF format.

Please do not attempt to print a document, with the previous document that was printed from the same section, and such print file is still open. This will not work, as the system will try to save the file with the same name and this will not be successful, if the previous file is open. Your options are to close the previous print file, or rename the current file being printed, depending on the situation.
